Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is a short-term treatment modality used to help children, adolescents, and their families overcome the negative effects of traumatic experiences. TF-CBT can help reduce emotional and behavioral responses and correct negative beliefs and attributions related to traumatic experiences in children and adolescents. Further, nonoffending parents can receive support and skills in treatment to help them cope effectively with their own emotional distress and respond positively to and support their child or adolescent.
